Frequently Asked Questions

What is Non-GMO?

Non-GMO means non-genetically modified. Scientists, consumer and environmental groups have cited many health and environmental risks with foods containing GMOs. Our sunflowers are all non-GMO and have many health benefits as well.

What is High Oleic sunflower oil?

High oleic sunflower oil is very high in oleic (monounsaturated) acid. It is high in unsaturated fat, low in saturated fat and has no trans fat. High oleic oil has been shown to lower LDL cholesterol without lowering HDL cholesterol.

Why choose “Cold” pressed oil?

Cold pressed oils retain all of their flavor, aroma and nutritional value. The oil is obtained through pressing and grinding fruit or seeds with the use of heavy granite millstones or modern stainless steel presses. To be considered “cold pressed” the temperature must not rise above 120°F.

How can the oil be used for cooking?

Unlike most seed cooking oils, sunflower oil can be heated to high temperatures. We recommend not heating above 400 F to ensure maintaining the quality of the oil. You can use it to sauté, deep fry, and bake. It can also be used in salad dressings and makes amazing popcorn!

Where are the sunflowers grown?

Hudson Valley Cold Pressed Oils sunflowers are grown locally on our farm along with other farms in the New York Hudson Valley region.
