Sunflower Oil Products

High oleic sunflower oil is very high in oleic (monounsaturated) acid. It is high in unsaturated fat, low in saturated fat and has no trans fat. High oleic oil has been shown to lower LDL cholesterol without lowering HDL cholesterol.

Hudson Valley Cold Pressed Oils sunflowers are grown locally on our farm along with other farms in the New York Hudson Valley region.

Cold pressed oils retain all of their flavor, aroma and nutritional value. The oil is obtained through pressing and grinding fruit or seeds with the use of heavy granite millstones or modern stainless-steel presses. To be considered “cold pressed” the temperature must not rise above 120°F.

Unlike most seed cooking oils, sunflower oil can be heated to high temperatures. We recommend not heating above 375 F to ensure maintaining the quality of the oil. You can use it to sauté, deep fry, and bake. It can also be used in salad dressings and makes amazing popcorn!

With the exception of our prepared foods, like hummus and baked breads, all of our products are produced and packaged, in a gluten free and nut free facility.

The brunette mix is more cookie dough- like than cake batter. It is not meant to be poured into a baking pan, but instead pressed down evenly into the pan before baking.

All the mixes in the bags are vegan with the exception of the Chocolate chips in the Brunette mix which are separated in a smaller bag. However, the added ingredients are not. You made make substitutions for those added ingredients.

It’s our version on a Blondie recipe. It is a nutty chocolate chip cookie bar (NO NUTS just sunflower flour). Due to our flour being dark in color it will never look like a blondie so we called it a Brunette instead.

Depending on how you care for your flowers, they can last anywhere from a few days to over a week.

In 2020 we opened up a pumpkin patch for the first time in October, and hope to continue this for years to come!

Yes, but they are not the same kind of seed that you would buy in the store. Our sunflower seeds are specific for pressing oil. The seeds you buy in the store are confectioner.

You can try your hand at replanting them in the spring. We recommend removing the seeds from the flower, drying them, and storing them until about June. If you don’t want to dry them, you can remove them from the flower and add them to a salad, or a meal of your choice. We find that when they are raw, they taste carrot-like. Another option would be to hang the flower by the stem, upside down, as a bird feeder in your yard!

First you would need to change the water and trim the stems approximately every other day. Another trick which is pretty cool, can be to add a penny from 1982 or prior into the water. The reasoning for putting these pennies in the water is that they were made with copper, which helps the flowers last longer! Try not to use water from a water softener, do not leave your flowers outside in the heat or in direct sunlight. They are best kept in a cool place!

Yes, as long as they are respectful to others and on leash.
